The first of our Staff Member in the Spotlight blog posts, features Emily Johnson, Twinkleboost's Speech and Language Therapy Assistant.
Emily leads our Sensory Storytime, Teddy Time and Chatter Away nursery programmes. The unique combination of Emily's degree in Performance and her Specialist training in Children's Speech and Language Support make her perfectly placed for this challenging role.
Each week Emily performs a different fairy tale in front of parents and children, developing children’s language whilst at the same time integrating parent training and modelling language strategies. Emily has a varied work week, often leading community classes in the mornings and working in children's centres and nurseries in the afternoons.
Over the past few months Emily has worked hard to complete a number of additional training programmes alongside her busy role. She has recently passed her Identifying atypical language development assessment as well as courses in Sign in the Early Years and Behaviour Management for Therapists.
Prior to training as a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant, Emily supported children with English as an Additional Language in mainstream schools and has worked as a Montessori teacher in Thailand.
“Working as a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant is amazing and my favourite thing about my job is watching how the children develop. It's so rewarding to see their language and communication skills progress but it's also lovely to see how the fun games and activities help them grow in confidence too.”
